I'm Ignorant

Is racial profiling different from taking into account race or nationality as a relevant category in assessing the probability that you are likely to be or do something? It seems that using it as a relevant category is defensible to a degree -- wouldn't want to deprive law enforcement of relevant information -- but that something more than that would be wrong. Is there more there?

And is my value judgement terribly off?
