Blue State Elitism

At the beginning of a story on ramen, the New York Times observes that "remote towns in Hokkaido (the Japanese equivalent of, say, northern Wisconsin)" as if northern Wisconsin is the embodiment of remoteness and obscurity. As a proud south-central Wisconsinite, I take offense at that. Hasn't the food page gotten the message that they are supposed to be solicitous of the rural outposts that constitute the real America?
